Press about La mer, la pierre, la terre, l’oiseau

The reviews for the new album of Blazin’ Quartet are flattering.

Here’s one from the French JAZZ NEWS that focused on me:

Avec La mer, la pierre, la terre, l’oiseau ce subtil batteur propose un sacré voyage, inspiré par d’autres (anti)héros européens : le fameux Zorba le Grec et Alija Đerzelez, personnage légendaire de la littérature slave. On y retrouve le Français Christophe Panzani, l’Italien Federico Casagrande, le Grec Andreas Polyzogopoulos ou le Bulgare Mihail Ivanov. On appelle â un Européen convaincu. Et convaincant.

SRDJAN JAZZ NEWS
With La mer, la pierre, la terre, l’oiseau this subtle drummer proposes a journey, among others inspired byEuropean anti-heroes: the famous Zorba the Greek and Alija Đerzelez, a legendary figure of Slavic literature. The album features the Frenchman Christophe Panzani, the Italian Federico Casagrande, the Greek Andreas Polyzogopoulos and the Bulgarian Mihail Ivanov. We call that a convinced European. And convincing too.

Next coming from the lifestyle magazine InRocks – the albums was chosen as one of the 10 French jazz albums to be urgently listened to!

The extended name of the album clearly indicates it: nature will speak, whisper secrets that only the spirit can detect and which the musician, controlling air vibrations, will in turn communicate. For the drummer Srdjan Ivanovic, this is what it’s about, musically as well as spiritually, and it demands to know to surround oneself to reach the goal. In Christophe Panzani (tenor and bass clarinet), Andreas Polyzogopoulos (trumpet) and Mihail Ivanonv (double bass), he found the best possible partners to cross the space of his compositions in slow flights, dizzy dips and releasing gushes.

Summer: Amsterdam, theatre, festivals

This summer I had the pleasure of working on the music for and playing in the play HOOFDROL by the music theatre group KASSETT from Amsterdam. Together with saxophonist Joao Driessen and pianist Daan Herweg we performed music ranging from late romantic classical to jalkan bazz during 8 sold out shows 14 – 23d July 2017.

Blazin’ Quartet’s new album pre-sale/crowdfunding has begun

Dear friends,

Living a musician’s life is not easy. Travelling in fast trains and airplanes, having to attend concerts and gala events, struggling to make it from recording to concert and sometimes even having to do rehearsals!! On the good side there’s the money, the fame and the social privileges.

Speaking of money, there are more important things in life (diamonds, gold, real estate) but for the release of Blazin’ Quartet’s new album we do need some support in order to properly release it. So, a crowdfunding has been launched for that purpose and you are kindly invited to check it out and support. If you do, you will be the first to get the new album, a high quality download with some extras added and some really nice rewards, like the BQ magic mug.

See more about that here: https://www.kisskissbankbank.com/en/projects/blazin-quartet-la-mer-la-pierre-la-terre-l-oiseau

Being a multilingual person (not really by choice) I’ve translated the website in a few other languages so if you prefer you can go the the French, Dutch or Italian version. (Italian I do not speak but my partner in many crimes Catherine F. Simon has among many other things helped out there!)

Otherwise, in the last few months, since I last wrote, I’ve been travelling around, both for music and pleasure to Serbia, Bosnia, New York, Albany, Adirondacks, Geneva and as I write I am in the outskirts of a small city in Switzerland called Fribourg. I’ve been playing with some different people like Marc Buronfosse’s Sketch Trio, Hugo Corbin Quartet, Yannick Benoit Trio, the group Diplodocus, the Srdjan Grujicic OrKestre and Blazin’ Quartet, who’s concert was filmed and recorded and this EPK came out as a result. Some other exciting news are that I will be doing music for a music-theatre collective called MC Kassett. The play, called HOOFDROL (transl.: Leading role) is a play based on the seemingly contrasting figures of Jayne Mansfield and Artur Schopenhauer and will feature some new music and some Blazin’ Quartet music, played live by a trio I put together, consisting of Joao Driessen on tenor sax, EWI and Daan Herweg on keys and synth. Other nice upcoming news are playing the 10th of March with the giutarist Hugo Corbin’s Quartet (Christophe Panzani – tenor sax, Nico Moreau – bass) at the Paris/Prague Jazz Club. (facebook invite here) and in April the pre-release tour with Blazin’ Quartet in Serbia (3-7 April in Pancevo, Novi Sad, Subotica, Kragujevac and Belgrade).

Hope to cross paths with you sometime in the coming time,

Srdjan

From Downbeat: “The clever postmodern antics of the young Blazin’ Quartet were noteworthy; featuring Serbian limber drummer Srdjan Ivanovic, they twist and tweak conventions, as might be expected from a band whose new album is called Jalkan Bazz”

Back from New York

After a full month in the Big Apple, I can say I’ve learned a lot, had great experiences on what to do and what not to do and met wonderful musicians as well as old friends.

Special thanks to my friend Jason Lindner for his mentorship and insight, and to my friend Randjit Prassad for the hanging out and the help.

Next time there (December 2015/January 2016) I hope to continue on some projects started and to have a blast.

Back in Paris I’ll be doing some nice concerts, specially with the co-led group The 3 Moons and the Marc Buronfonsse led Sounds Trio.

Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Scholarship

I’m very glad to have recieved a scholarship for a freely shaped musical visit to New York in the US, to absorb the music, the creative energy and to take lessons from different great musicians focusing playing as well as composition. Looking forward to this creative trip, of a total duration of 3 months.

A big thanks to the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and in particular to the Jan en Tina Huizinga Fonds for giving me this opportunity.
