Dissident Club

Since two years now I’ve been leading the jam session every Thursday at the Dissident Club in Paris. It’s a dive bar whose owner Taha Siddiqui has an amazing story of courage, belief in freedom of press but also courage to open a bar in a city he just landed in. There is always a great trio opening the session from 20h30 to 21h30 approx and then a jam session open to musicians, until 00:15.

The line-up of the opening musicians is announced every week and some of the musicians that have played so fare are : Michael Felberbaum, Gabriel Midon, Hugo Corbin, Noé Clerc, Sébastien Llado, Daniel Gassin, Mauro Gargano, Matis Regnault, Yoni Zelnik, Maciek Pysz, Simon Martineau, Blaise Chevallier …

That is of course if you don’t live in the privileged areas of the Ex-Yugoslavia or Bulgaria, where the album was released earlier 😉

The album is the fruit of hard work of these 11 incredible musicians, amazing compositions and arrangements by Vladimir Nikolov and a great and demanding artistic director by the name of Jochen Neuffer and many other people I will mention another time. I’m honored to be co-leading the band, specialising in arranging breaks and restaurants during tours and recordings.😂

C’est un projet qui est socialement (et on pourrait dire politiquement) actif, dans le sens où je voulais discuter et mettre en avant le sujet d’être étranger ou différent de la plupart, dans tous les sens de ce mot, pas seulement en tant que nationalité.
La chanson (paroles écrites par JP Carlo parle d'”ici et là”, c’est-à-dire de la façon dont les gens “d’ici” rêvent de “là-bas” et comment ils ne deviennent jamais vraiment quelqu’un ”d’ici”, mais ils sont plus de “là-bas” non plus… Comment les choses “là-bas” sonnent et se sentent différemment des choses “ici”.
Comme le diraient les Beatles : “Here, There and Everywhere” 🙂
Xénos est : Jovana Krstevska – voix, Robby Marshall– sax ténor, Corbin Hugo – guitare, Philippe Waterballs – basse, sur l’enregistrement Timothée Robert “Vide Médian” – basse.

C’était un vrai plaisir de jouer mercredi dernier avec une équipe🔥 pour un public chaud qui nous a vraiment porté ! Merci à vous !

March 20th release concert in the Studio de l’Ermitage in Paris 🔥
I’m grateful to everyone who participated in it. I’ve been working on getting a Paris based band since I moved here 9 years ago and I’m so lucky to have these guys and girl in my band. It’s a privilege and great enjoyment to play and record with Ludivine, Olivier, Manu and Yoni!🙏
In the past year the band had included Magic Malik and a few times Christophe, with whom I’ve been playing in a couple of bands from the beginning of my Paris adventure. Both him being a musician that I love and admire and him knowing my music were the perfect conditions to have him produce the album (kind of like an artistic director). P.S. – I he’s releasing an album of his own these days so keep an ear-eye out for it!
I got to make this album in some of the best conditions, we recorded in Studio De Meudon (in Meudon, of course) with Julien Bassères and to mix it with Mathieu Pion in his studio in Orlèans and master it with PE Meriaud. These guys are no.1, the best. 💪
Thank you Sylvain Gripoix – Photographe for finding a perfect visual identity for the album, truly a grandmaster of this task!
The album is out on Rue Des Balkans which is a label I founded recently and distributed on L’Autre Distribution. (Thank you Luc for believing in the album and Roman for the great work!). Agnès Thomas for the PR of the album! 💪
Thank to Catherine for supporting me and putting up with me dedicating so much time to music, it’s not easy being a musician’s partner. And thanks to Joël Veiga and Yucca Rousset for being great buddies and for supporting my ventures. Thanks, as always, to my dad Vojislav Ivanovic for the inspiration and transmitting the love for music. If you listen very closely you can hear an hommage to his composing in one of the tracks. And thanks to my mother Fahira Zvizdic for being a rock for me to hold on to.
Finally, thanks to the SCPP and Adami for helping fund the album and to the Ville de Paris for helping realise the release concert.
